DIY Hormones

Are you worried your hormones may be off, and want to know how to fix them on your own?

Take a Quick Self-Assessment: Are your Hormones Imbalanced?

  1. Do you experience chronic mental, emotional, or physical stress?
  2. Do you have irregular sleep 3+ nights/week?
  3. Do you consume red meat, caffeine, or processed foods more than 3+ days/week?
  4. Do you use “regular” beauty products (not specifically labeled non-toxic)?
  5. Do you have food allergies or sensitivities?
  6. Are you on hormonal birth control?
  7. Do you consume alcohol more than 1x/week?
  8. Is your weight considered obese?
  9. Do you exercise beyond a healthy point?
  10. Are your periods painful or unpredictable?

If you answer “Yes” to 3 or more questions, it is very possible your hormones are imbalanced.

A self-assessment is not always an accurate assessment of your hormone health. Please consult with a doctor for hormone testing if you have serious concerns.

I check hormones among many other genetic and environmental factors in my VIP Days. You can Apply here!

Stress affects our hormones in so many ways. Think about if a bear was coming after you. You would either need to fight and defend yourself or run away. Short term circumstances are what stress hormones are for…..to save our lives. But when we stay in stressful circumstances whether physically or mentally, our stress hormones take over and put the rest of our hormones at risk.

Think about this. If a bear was running after you, the last thing your body would want to do is lay down and make a baby, lose weight or digest your food. So being under constant stress can result in irregular periods, inability to lose weight, trouble sleeping and digestion issues….just to name a few!!

If you’d like to give DIY Hormones a go, you can begin creating a healthy environment for your Hormones to Rebalance with these two tips:

     1.   Actually Stop Stressing

Evaluate your stress: is the stress you are experiencing circumstantial and temporary?

Is the stress due to something that needs to change? Are the things that you are stressing about actually happening or are they just thoughts and scenarios created by your mind. Be honest here and allow yourself to make changes to support your health and stress levels.

Once you have made necessary changes, consider that stress can be a choice. We can be doing something we love and still feel stress. It is likely that changing your environment will not remove the stress you feel inside. To address the stress internally, choose to focus on what you are grateful for and what is going well throughout the day. It may feel weird at first, but this is good. Change will feel weird at first, that means you’re actually doing something different rather than just thinking about it!

     2.  Rest and Re-learn our Dependence on God

Allow yourself to relax, softening each muscle one at a time from your head to your toes. Is your body actually relaxing? Practice this daily to quiet your mind, and to train your body to actually rest.

Not only do we need to learn to physically rest and relax our bodies, it is also important to relax our minds. In our busy worlds, resting is also an act of relearning our dependence on God. Remember, even he rested on the 7th day. So when we rest, we can not only reset our stress hormones but also step back and allow God to move on our behalf. Remember, we don’t have to do it all!!

To DIY your hormones, it will require breaking habits. We are often addicted to stress or struggle and we continue burning ourselves out. To create a thriving environment for your hormones, you must learn to allow goodness into your life.
